Making a Big Deal

 Having devised and performed with Escape Theatre, Krissi Musiol is stepping onto the big stage alone in an attempt to explore solo performance and her identity as a performer. Krissi’s performance material is created from autobiographical experiences.

“I’m proud to say all those hours spent losing (in casinos/bookies/around numerous poker tables and in life generally) has finally had some use! If I had a spare tenner I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to spend it than to gamble it - it’s the thrill of the game, the glory and the pain, the addiction to play just one more hand, just one more spin of the roulette wheel…next time I’ll win it all back, I’ll win big…”

Krissi’s aim is that her performance Making A Big Dealincorporates ideas and images of current celebrities, to show the desperation behind the fame and how easy it is to lose – to lose a booking, to lose your voice, to lose your clothes, to lose your blood, to lose your identity, to become someone else.

The idea for the piece was initially founded during the project Quiet Time with Mole Wetherall of Reckless Sleepers, and then devised as part of her MA at Manchester University in March 2007. Having developed and adapted the piece for emergency 07, and now with the ‘outside eye’ of Quarantine’s Richard Gregory, and with greenroom’s support for Method Lab 08 this idea is being fully realised.  Krissi’s been “…on a booze fuelled bender in The Vegas Baby!! –I got married whilst I was there too. It would be crazy not to. And Jenny bet me that I wouldn’t…”

Crystal Wineglass has got this friend, who’s got a friend, whose creative energy has been abused, whose soul has drowned in cheap plonk and the Blues.
