Zoe Hammond
Brought up in Hull and Manchester, I have been involved in making original performance, dance and film work from before I began my chosen degree at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. This is where I met the four other women who make up Bachi performance group with whom I have worked for just over a year. Graduating this summer, we performed our first professional piece in July and created a larger scale outdoor work at Aberaeron Seafood Festival. Throughout my degree I created numerous works, some live performance and some installation-art (for the Scenography part of the course). I have worked with young people to make short films and to create original dance. My performances are varied in style but I am primarily a movement-based artist. I have entered videos of dances made for film into various festivals and competitions and am currently looking for opportunities as an individual performer. My study of karate is integral to my fitness and is a useful way of training the body. In October Bachi will perform at Experimentica ’04 in Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff and a colleague and I are due to shoot 3 films with Mike Pearson, John Rowley and Mike Brookes to be taken to Chicago (by Mike Pearson) for a project with Philip Brotzman.
