Qasim Riza Shaheen
Qasim Riza Shaheen is an artist based in Manchester, UK. His work has been programmed widely, including at The National Review of Live Art, Glasgow; Liverpool Biennial; Port City & Breathing Space at Arnolfini in Bristol; Castlefield Gallery in Manchester; Alhamra National Gallery and Rohtas Gallery in Lahore, Pakistan where he has recently taught and completed an artist residency with the National College of Arts.
He is currently Artist in Residence with CityArts/Fire Station Artist Studios in Dublin, Ireland where he is researching and developing a body of work entitled Liliquoi Blue: God Made Me a Boy around notions of beautification, personal icons and childhood memories with the Filipino contestants of a transgendered beauty pageant.
Qasim is also a network member of AHRC/ESRC Religion and Society Network Scheme’s research project 'Performance, Politics, Piety: Music and Debate in Muslim Societies of North Africa, West Asia, South Asia and their Diasporas' at the School of Music, University of Leeds.
