Mark Whitelaw

Mark Whitelaw is a writer, director, and dramaturg. He graduated in Theatre from Crewe and Alsager College in 1987 with a first class honours degree, and worked with Steve Purcell & Co. on 'A Marvel we had (Always Longed For)' (Riverside Studios and touring). He then formed The Glee Club Performance Company with whom he created 14 performance pieces that have toured nationally and internationally, these include, 'At last, the sea' (1988), 'Cotton Mather's Wonders of the Invisible World' (1995. Winner of M.E.N. Theatre Award, and Barclays New Stages) and 'Beatrice on the Frankfurt Express' (1997)Mark was awarded the Arts Foundation Award Fellowship for Multi-Disciplinary Arts in 1995.

As well as his work with The Glee Club, Mark has collaborated with numerous international theatre companies, dance companies and solo artists, including Peter Zegveld (Holland), Mem Morrison, The People Show, Norddans (Sweden), Insomniac Productions, Bedlam Dance Company, H2 Dance, Penny Collinson & Company, and Shamshad Khan.He has also directed several projects for Duckie, including the international smash-hit show C’est Vauxhall/C’est Barbican, which won an Olivier Award and a Time Out award, both for Best Entertainment in 2003.

Mark Whitelaw has worked with Ursula Martinez for 10 years. Together they have created A Family Outing, Show Off, O.A.P, and award winning short film Venkel’s Syndrome. He is an associate director of Ursula Martinez Productions.
