Municipal Constructions

Municipal Constructions (Graham Clayton-Chance) specialises in media based, site specific, urban installation. Since 1996 the projects have been seen nationally and internationally from sites as diverse as the Victoria Baths, Manchester; the Cob Harbour in Dorset; a storage unit in Chelsea,New York to a pump station by the bank of the St. Laurent River in Montreal. In 2003 he was invited to take part in an International research event in New York for two months. This residency explored creative working methods for Multi Media Installation and Design with a team of film makers, dancers, architects, historians, musicians and writers.

Graham collaborated on Skid 180 a major new media performance collaboration with award winning Australian Theatre Company Arena Theatre at Contact and a short Dance film with Nigel Charnock and the Helsinki Dance Theatre Company. 

Graham also  lectures, works as a commercial media producer and director and has been both associate artist with IDEA (Innovation in Digital and Electronic Art) and the digital video consultant with NW-New-Media Network

In 2004 he won a MEN Theatre Award as part of the design team for his work on Bro9 with Juliet Ellis and Segun and most recently was shortlisted for the Capture 04 Dance and new media fund. His short film, “Exit Manhattan” about the New York art and music scene post September 11thwon the Reel North Audience Award at the Commonwealth Film Festival 2005.

 Since 2002 Graham’s Municipal Constructions work has shifted towards the digital domain developing the existing interest in multimedia, urban architecture and live performance within digital formats.
