Electronic Dance Theatre

The 'identity' of the Electronic Dance Theatre was established in 1995 with the first performance of The Navigator, a full length site specific work for a solo performer and electronically sensitised performance space. This performance grew out of a long term collaboration between choreographer and director Julie Wilson (Bokowiec) and electronics specialist and Electro-acoustic composer Mark Bromwich (Bokowiec) which began in 1989. Electronic Dance Theatre was established specifically to focus and frame their work with electronics, new technology, and to give this work a seperate identity from other aspects of their individual freelance work.

The work of EDT is as much concerned with development and innovation supported by long term collaboration as it is with performance.

Much of the design and researcgh work undertaken by Julie and Mark has been supported through small grants from YHA, through the financial and in-kind support of business sponsors, and through the establishment of partnerships with education and research units such as The University of Huddersfield, KACOR in Stockholm and STEIM in Amsterdam.
