Bedlam Dance Company

 Company Policy

Under the direction of Jerwood award winner Yael Flexer, Bedlam Dance Company has been creating critically acclaimed contemporary dance for the past 16 years. Originally formed by Yael as Choreographer in Residence at The Place Theatre, the company has gained considerable reputation for producing work that is honest, humorous and human as well as technically sophisticated.
Bedlam values a rigorous and democratic approach to collaboration with performers and artists of other disciplines, fusing idiosyncratic movement, contemporary music and new technology. The company's work encompasses small to middle-scale touring, site-specific, installation, professional training, education and community projects.

Coming Soon
Bedlam Dance Company return to the touring circuit with their brand-new show Doing, Done and Undone, which brings together an exceptional team of dancers and collaborators. Working with digital artist Nic Sandiland, lighting designer Michael Mannion and composers Karni Postel and Nye Parry, this 6 strong international group of dancers explore the specially commissioned electro-acoustic score which intricately weaves both Hebrew and Arabic voices with string instrumentation.

Made as a triptych, Doing, Done and Undone is a dance that moves from the functional to the frenetic and considers the ways in which we are inevitably tied to one another.  Blending fast-paced intricate choreography and a wry sense of humour, Doing, Done and Undone questions what we do to others, what is done to us and how this makes us come undone.

Doing, Done and Undone has been funded by: Dansens Hus, Denmark, Chichester University, The Clore Duffield Foundation and Arts Council England through Grants for the Arts with support from Greenwich Dance Agency, Farnham Maltings, The Jerwood Space and Take Art.!

The development and staging of Doing, Done and Undone was made with the support of a grant from the European Association for Jewish Culture.

As part of the Doing Done and Undone, Bedlam has also presented the brand new interactive installation by Nic Sandiland and has also been working with a range of groups from youth groups to professional artists to develop work which will be shown at selected venues.
